Stephanie
Smelser Engstrom
was born in New Haven, Connecticut  and
raised in Branford, graduating
from Branford High School in 1993.
She then attended Towson
University
in
Maryland, graduating with a BS
in Art Education in 1998. During her stay in Maryland,
Stephanie student taught elementary school art and her work was
featured in several student art shows.
Upon her return to
Connecticut, Stephanie taught at The High School in the
Community, in New Haven, where  she
developed the School's first
art program. At
the same time, she completed her Master’s
Degree in Art
Education
at Southern Connecticut State University. |
Among
her educational endeavors, Stephanie studied in Urbino, Italy
where she created her "Life
is More Than a Landscape" series. She also studied
under Constance Pierce, at Yale  University's
Art Gallery, creating Artist Books.
During her pregnancy,
Stephanie received a "belly casting" kit. After
casting herself and then a few friends, "belly
casting" became a new part of her portfolio.
Stephanie is  now
joyfully tending to her
new son’s upbringing and creating art for others.
